Alan is the Founder and CEO of TrueLane Homes and is responsible for the firm’s overall strategy, finances, operations, and culture, with a focus on growing assets under management and scaling processes. Alan graduated from the University of Colorado. He worked on the Mercantile Exchange in Chicago and with Drexel Burnham Lambert in London, and decided that China was the area of the world that would offer the most opportunity during his lifetime. Alan traveled to Hong Kong and Taiwan distributing his resume along the way. After working in Chinese trading companies and developing new products, he established a quality control inspection company to help buyers ensure that they were getting the quality they expected before shipments left factories in Taiwan. Alan formed True Innovations to manufacture innovative and affordable home and office furniture. In the early 1990’s, True Innovations moved production to southern mainland China and established a leadership position designing, manufacturing and selling office and home seating to big box retailers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Over a period of more than 10 years, True Innovations was the leader in merchandising those products. In 2011, True Innovations was acquired by Li & Fung, a publicly traded company in Hong Kong. As active philanthropists, Alan and his wife Twila founded True Children’s Home (“TCH”) in China in 2006. The charity’s mission is to save the lives of orphaned children, fund corrective surgery, provide post-surgical care, place children with foster families, and facilitate adoption. TCH merged with Love Without Boundaries in 2011. In addition, they founded the nonprofit True Sioux Hope Foundation, which is inspiring unprecedented, permanent, positive change for the Sioux Tribe in South Dakota by providing much-needed funding for education and infrastructure. True Sioux Hope Foundation is a fundraising vehicle to provide grants and funding to highly vetted organizations that are already in place and well equipped to deliver the life-saving resources needed for the Sioux nation to survive and thrive. Alan is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. He and Twila live in Newport Beach with their four children.
Taylor Carvajal is the Chief Operating Officer at TrueLane Homes. Taylor has management responsibility over the real estate platform and is the senior executive responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the business. Taylor also serves as a key financial advisor to True Family Enterprises and the food products and HPP businesses. Prior to TrueLane Homes, Taylor was Chief Financial Officer of Amherst Holdings’ Single-Family Rental business. Prior to Amherst Holdings, Taylor held senior finance positions at The Blackstone Group, Ares Management, Goldman Sachs and PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a Director in the firm’s Global Capital Markets Group. Taylor received a B.S. cum laude from the University of Southern California and an M.S. from the University of Virginia. He served for 10 years as an officer in the United States Navy and Navy Reserve and is the recipient of the Bronze Star for outstanding duty performance during combat operations in Iraq. In 2010 he was selected as the Navy Reserve Junior Military Intelligence Officer of the Year, and is the recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Iraq Campaign Medals. Taylor is involved in numerous charities including the Wounded Warrior Project and the March of Dimes.
Mr. Kim leads the accounting team and is responsible for the company’s accounting, treasury, debt compliance, financial reporting & analysis and tax matters. Sonny brings 14 years of professional accounting experience in various real estate sectors including management of senior living, commercial, retail, and industrial properties, fund accounting, and home building. Sonny has demonstrated an adeptness at building, motivating and managing the accounting team while creating interdepartmental synergy and efficiency. Prior to joining TrueLane Homes, Sonny served as Controller for MBK Senior Living, LLC managing 22 senior living communities and leading a team of 13 accountants through all accounting related activities including financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting, accounting month end, and acquisitions/dispositions. Prior to MBK, Sonny served in Controllership roles for Shopoff Realty Investments managing 7 commercial and development Funds, Colony Capital, LLC and the New Home Company during their IPO. Sonny earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from the University of California Los Angeles and is also a California Certified Public Accountant.
As Vice President of Acquisitions, Mr. Haggerty oversees all asset purchases, establishes and opens new markets for acquisitions and operations, as well as contributes to corporate and fund level strategy. Thomas is a seasoned buyer and operator with over 9 years of single-family rental experience. Prior to TrueLane Homes, Thomas began his career with an affiliate operator of Colony American Homes and several other institutional platforms, where he experienced first-hand the growth of the SFR industry and development of best practices across the life cycle of a single-family rental home. He has leveraged his ability to understand macro market trends to acquire and operate homes in over 30 major markets nationwide.
As Vice President of Capital Markets at TrueLane homes, Mr. Nonato is charged with the development and execution of the firm’s capital strategy. He has over 11 years of experience in capital markets and investment management within the real estate and private equity industries. Before joining TrueLane Homes, Jerome spent over 10 years in New York, most recently with Fortress Investment Group, where he executed capital markets and M&A transactions for several REITs within Fortress’ private equity group. Prior to Fortress, Jerome held finance and advisory roles with Morgan Stanley and Deloitte.
Rob is responsible for the overall construction and development strategy of TrueLane Homes. In addition, he leads the optimization of the company’s construction, repair and maintenance, and turnover processes. Rob brings over 30 years of real estate acquisition, development and property management experience. Prior to joining TrueLane Homes, Rob was a Regional Services Director at Progress Residential, responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of new initiatives in the initial rehab, turn process and general maintenance of single-family homes. Rob has also held numerous management positions with Haven Homes, prior to its merger with Progress Residential, and The American Home Company. Rob earned a B.S. in Business Management from Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
As Vice President of Asset Management, Ms. Parker is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the asset management department with a focus on optimizing portfolio performance, increasing NOI, maximizing occupancy, increasing retention, and reducing delinquency. Kelli brings over 15 years of experience in property and asset management for multi-family and single-family rental assets. Prior to joining TrueLane Homes, Kelli oversaw the asset management group with HomeUnion, where she helped to implement standardized policies and procedures and led efforts to improve portfolio performance and investor satisfaction. Formerly Kelli was a Regional Asset Manager with Progress Residential managing multiple markets and optimizing performance.
Patrick brings to TrueLane Homes nearly two decades of experience in technology management and business process improvement. Mr. Schmidt takes a holistic approach to solution architecture believing that technology alone is rarely the panacea. Instead it is the continual improvement of an integrated system of appropriate technologies, scalable business processes and knowledgeable people that drives operational efficiency. Patrick is responsible for TrueLane Homes information systems and technology strategy. Before joining TrueLane Homes, Patrick implemented and managed the Yardi Systems suite of products for real estate investment startup HomeUnion. As Director of Strategic Initiatives at Verengo Solar he led software engineering and the project management office and prior was Director of Business Systems Integration at Investor’s Business Daily & Investors.com. Patrick earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine and an M.B.A with an emphasis in Information Technology & Decision Sciences from Loyola Marymount University. He holds ITIL, CSM, PSM, and PMP certifications and is a member of the National Rental Homes Council technology committee.
